Make your Wildest Dreams Come True!

Stop Dreaming and Start DOING!

We all have dreams and aspirations. But we often spend too much time thinking about what we could or should do and not enough time DOING…taking action towards reaching those goals. I know this to be true because I’ve been saying for years that I really want to get back into taking dance classes in NYC. Life just got in the way and after time went by I didn’t think I really could (I’m not 20 anymore!).
So I decided to take action and here I am taking a class at Broadway Dance Center in NYC.
Stop getting stuck in the dream phase. Stop planning and thinking about what you could do and start doing it. Want to make a career change, want to go back to school, want to lose weight? Nothing is out of your reach. But you have to take action! Just do it today!

8 Minute Workout

Each week we feature a new move from a Red Hot Dance Fitness choreographed routine, an exercise from a Red Hot Barre class, or a fitness or nutrition tip. Your Red Hot Fit Tip of the week is designed to motivate you and help you stay on track while traveling either for work or relaxation. It can be hard to eat healthy and workout while away from home. Here are some tips to help you stay on track: BE PREPARED! Call the hotel and check to see if you have a refrigerator available to you. Pick up or bring healthy snacks like fresh fruit, veggies as well as yogurt and other healthy foods you eat at home. Next you want to make sure you bring your workout clothes so you can workout in the hotel gym. You can even search for local gyms prior to your trip and take a class in that area. Often times gyms offer free trial guest passes. Step outside of your comfort zone and try something new! If you are pressed for time try this 8 minute workout – 8 exercises for 1 minute each that will hit every major muscle group for a full body workout. You can repeat the 8 exercise again for a longer workout. Repeat 3 or 4 times for an even longer workout!

Featured Gym: Healthplex Sportsclub

Healthplex Sportsclub in Springfield, PA was looking for a dance program that was going to pack their studio and deliver a fun yet very effective workout for their membership. Group Fitness Director Beth McNeely went searching for a program that would be fun, had great music and that would be consistent for their instructing team and she found exactly what she was looking for in the Red Hot Dance Fitness format. “The moves were easy to follow and they made me feel like I was dancing and not in an aerobics class.  When I hear the songs on the radio or out at a social event I know I can do the moves.”

“Our members at the Healthplex love RHDF. Overall our numbers have increased in everyone’s classes.” Beth commented that the program really allows each instructor to bring their own flair while still providing consistency for their members.  “This class is great for all ages, we see a lot of mother/daughter combinations in class. Members come out of the class with a good sweat and a big smile.”

Healthplex currently offers 5 Red Hot Dance Fitness class and just recently added the Barre format to their schedule.

Featured Instructor: Leah Lauritzen

leah

Leah got her start in the fitness industry 5 years ago as a participant. She loved taking Zumba classes and took the plunge to become an instructor in September 2012 after leaving her full time job to stay home full time with her 3 boys: 10, 7 and 2 years of age. Growing up in Washington Leah was very outdoing and always loved to dance.
“When a friend recommended a Zumba fitness class, I took Zumba religiously for years and years. Never missed a class and was so excited when class would come. I was encouraged by participants and instructors to get my Zumba License. It wasn’t until I stopped working full time to be a stay at home mom that I decided Dance fitness was my next step! I began teaching in September 2012 and haven’t looked back!”
In January of 2013 Leah was introduced to Red Hot Dance Fitness and fell in love with the format. “There is so much that I love about Red Hot Dance. I am a music lover of all genres and get to take that into class. The choreography is always fresh and the music is always fun and new. Anyone can do it! We have Hip Hop, Jazz, Broadway, Old School, Latin, funk and so much more in every class.”

Her favorite songs right now are Blurred Lines, Shawty got moves, and Olly Murs, Dance with me Tonight! “I can see the participants that have been in class for a while really start to challenge themselves and their body while new dancers are having so much fun learning the moves.  It’s so rewarding. Find a Red Hot Dance Fitness class and GO! You won’t regret it!”

Come Dance and Get Sweaty with Leah at Harbor Square Athletic Club in Edmonds, WA every Monday & Wednesday at 6:30pm and Fridays at 9:30am and stay tuned for her Red Hot Barre classes starting this fall.

Get The Most From Your Barre Workouts

  1. What you wear is important: Make sure to wear comfortable clothes. You do not need to wear tights and a leotard but you definitely want something that you can move in and that helps to absorb sweat.   Your feet are important as well. We do not wear sneakers because we focus on movement through the feet.  The feet contain 19 muscles and we want to use every single one of them.  If you don’t want to go barefoot we suggest the nike studio wrap. You can also buy socks that have the grippy attachments on the bottom as well as regular socks are too slippery.

  2. Fuel up! You need to proper fuel to give you energy throughout class so make sure you have fueled up and don’t forget to hydrate before, during and after class.

  3. Form is vital!  This is where having properly trained instructors is important so you not only get the most from the workout but also to prevent injury. We want safe and effective workouts.

  4. Bigger isn’t always better. Sometimes when you go bigger you sacrifice form.  For example when you kick you may try to get your leg higher but as you try to do so you lift your hip which can not only cause injury but you are also no longer working the muscles you are targeting.  So smaller range of motion with good form is always better.

  5. Keep going: you will likely feel sore the day after a class. But that is good. Its evidence that you worked hard and change is happening. So stick with it and you’ll see a remarkable difference in your body!
